Neuroscience
Research into brainwave acitivity demonstrates how Elysium Floatation®️ effects the mind.
Sensory attenuation
Elysium Floatation®️ offers a true weightless experience. The body is supported in motion by 28 frictionless ball bearings, but due to the patented geometry, there is zero acceleration. The body is always in balance, where motion is controlled by posture, gesture, or muscle tone. This means you literally float in the chair.
Through sensory integration, Elysium becomes an extension of your body. After a few moments, the chair feels as though it disappears from the experience. It is unlike any other recliner that relies on primitive electric motors or spring mechanisms.
Positive changes in the brain
Elysium Floatation®️ elicits positive changes in the brain. These changes are associated with deep and effortless levels of mindfulness meditation, with benefits on stress, pain, attention, working memory, and creative problem solving.
Elysium achieves this by reducing sensory input from the body to the brain. This is a form of therapy that was previously only achievable by floating in chambers of salt water.
The Theta-Alpha brainwave ratio
The Theta-Alpha brainwave ratio is an important biomarker that distinguishes different levels of meditation. Theta activity indexes the control needed to maintain a meditation state, whereas Alpha activity is related to the preparation needed to achieve the meditative state.
Theta-Alpha increases significantly for people floating in Elysium, suggesting that the experience of the chair plays a role in the preparation and initiation of deep effortless meditation. These changes did not happen with a zero gravity massage chair condition.
